Auto repair in the United States is split between independent shops, dealership service departments and national chains. Independents handle most routine work (oil changes, brakes, tune-ups, check-engine diagnostics) at lower labor rates and often specialize in one make or in imports; dealers keep factory tools, software and warranty authority; chains sell speed and standard pricing on maintenance items. Most shops charge a diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and quote parts and labor separately. Certification matters: look for ASE-certified technicians and, in many states, a state repair license posted at the counter. Written estimates are required by law in most states before work begins, and you are entitled to your old parts if you ask.

Wilmington is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Wilmington is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across North Carolina's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I love Dukes! White glove service plus senior and puppy friendly! Seriously though, I love their ability to keep the old Equinox up and running. The help me understand what priorities are. Plus they genuinely care!

I've been a long time Duke's customer. Everything from repairs, lift kit, tires and inspections. Recently my AC was making a loud noise so I took my car in and they said debris got in after my last oil change. They fixed the problem and sent me on my way. Honesty about a mistake they could've made is something you don't see often. Also, Tracey and the office team are just GREAT at customer service. There's a reason why the waiting room is always filled with people. They take care of their customers. Bonus stars because my favorite staff member there is Chevy, an adorable dog who takes her job very seriously.

Not really the reviewing they but want to share. Was in Wilmington for for a few days and unexpectedly needed new tires because of a destroyed tire. Car is AWD and so wanted to replace all 4. Rolled in on a Sunday to check their hours. Stacy (who I later found out is the owner) happened to be there, saw me and came outside. She listened to my issue, had me come into the store where she walked me through a few options, and from there I was able to leave my car. It was ready the next day and I was back on the road, driving the 6 hours north. Big takeaways for me...it was a Sunday and they were closed but Stacy saw me and took the time to help me. Price was great, and the whole job was done quickly to boot.

Had tires mounted and balanced. They also inspected my car and I took a nap on a comfortable recliner while I was waiting. What a great experience. They were super concerned about my safety and my vehicle running correctly. Had me come back 100 miles later to check my lugs with the torque wrench took five minutes. It's nice to deal with such a professional business.
